A “window sill” refers to the flat, horizontal surface located at the bottom of a window frame, both on the inside and outside of a building. It serves functional and aesthetic purposes. Internally, it provides a small ledge for placing objects like plants or decorative items, while externally, it helps direct water away from the wall beneath the window, protecting the structure from moisture damage. In some architectural designs, the window sill may also be called a “window ledge” or “stool,” especially when it extends further inside a room.
